It is important to think about the prevention of dropped objects before, during and after any maintenance tasks that need to be carried out. Before starting work inspect your work area, look out for anything that may have been left behind on earlier shifts, or previous maintenance work. Always think about the impact that a maintenance work can have further down the line.
Ask yourself and your crew:
- How can something like this happen here (e.g. on our site)?
- What safety measures (i.e. procedures, controls/barriers) do we have in place to mitigate the risk?
- How do we know the risk controls/barriers are working?
- What improvements or changes should we make to the procedures, controls/barriers or the way we work?
