Aviation misfuelling prevention
Misfuelling costs lives every year but all misfuelling incidents can be avoided. Some of the EI’s good practice recommendations to ensure the delivery of the correct fuel grade to an aircraft: immediately replace the jet fuel duck bill nozzle spout after finishing the previous fuelling; nozzle handles should be colour-coded (e.g. Black handle jet fuel, Red handle AVGAS); bowser should be clearly and extensively marked with Jet Fuel coding; an oral order should be repeated back; and aircraft should have a decal showing grade of fuel at filling port.
See www.energyinst.org/1597 for good practice recommendations.
